Freelance PHP / Symfony developer in Tunis

PHP is where I started: since 2017, I have been building business software with Symfony, from version 1.4 to 5. I am open to a role in Paris, on site or hybrid, and to freelance or nearshore missions from Tunis, for teams in France and Europe.

Tunis, TunisiaTEAMWILL

  • 9 yearsof business software, in PHP since 2017
  • 100+dealerships on a Symfony portal I ran single-handedly for almost three years
  • 7,000+active users on that same portal
  • 1.4 → 5the Symfony migration on that portal, by way of version 4

What I build

Management software in Symfony, new or existing

Since 2017, Symfony has been my everyday tool for management software: the portal of a network of more than 100 dealerships, an ERP, public sector applications, websites and their mobile versions.

A good part of the work is on existing systems, and that is often where it all plays out: stabilising production, migrating a portal from Symfony 1.4 to Symfony 4, then Symfony 5, without pausing the changes its users ask for, taking over code to clean it up and optimise it, integrating existing web services.

On a new project, I come in while the need is still being discussed: specifications, workshops with the client, design from the ground up, then a Symfony back end exposing REST APIs and a Vue.js front end, or Angular depending on the team. I track progress and check every delivery.

Symfony rarely lives alone: on my projects, PHP sits alongside Java and Spring Boot, exchanges data with partners’ information systems through web services, and runs in Docker, all the way to Azure.

Migrations, architecture and technical leadership

  • Version migrations

From Symfony 1.4 to Symfony 5 on a portal in production, by way of version 4: production stabilised first, then the framework migrated, with a production release at every version.

  • Hexagonal architecture and DDD

Modules organised around the domain: business logic decoupled from the framework and the database, ports and adapters for everything that touches the outside world.

  • Testing and acceptance

Automated unit tests with PHPUnit, code reviews, technical documentation and acceptance test plans signed off before every delivery.

  • Robust interfaces

REST and SOAP web services to ERPs and to partners’ and carmakers’ information systems, a portal’s document management (generation, indexing, digital archiving, e‑signature), document management and archiving interfaces, flows linked to several accounts.

  • Technical leadership

Costing, progress tracking, delivery checks, direct contact with the client: on a portal I ran single-handedly for almost three years, then with more than 15 developers to lead.

  • Sharing what I learn

I write about these topics: feature flags with Symfony, CQRS, PHP 8 versus Node.js, microservices versus monoliths.

Case studies

Three Symfony and PHP projects delivered, described without client names: the context, what I built, the technologies and the result.

The portal of a network of more than 100 dealerships, from Symfony 1.4 to Symfony 5

Automotive dealership network, France2022-2024

Context

The portal of a network of more than 100 dealerships in France, with more than 7,000 active users, runs on Symfony 1.4. Production needs stabilising, the framework needs modernising, and the network’s change requests have to keep shipping.

What I built
  • Stabilising production
  • The migration from Symfony 1.4 to Symfony 4, then Symfony 5
  • The portal’s document management: document generation, storage and indexing, digital archiving and e‑signature
  • The changes requested by the network, and improved user interfaces
  • Web services with the carmaker’s information system
  • A production release at every version, in direct contact with the client
Technologies
  • PHP
  • Symfony 1.4
  • Symfony 4
  • Symfony 5
  • REST API
  • Web services
  • Document management
  • E‑signature
Result

100+dealerships

Almost three years running the portal single-handedly, from stabilisation to Symfony 5, document management included, for more than 7,000 active users.

An ERP for human resources and equipment inventory

Business management2020-2022

Context

A company needs to manage its human resources and its equipment inventory in a complete ERP, to be designed from the ground up.

What I built
  • Designing the ERP from the ground up
  • A Symfony back end and a Vue.js front end
  • Automated PHPUnit and JUnit unit tests
  • Progress tracking and delivery checks
Technologies
  • PHP
  • Symfony
  • Vue.js
  • JavaScript
  • PHPUnit
  • JUnit
Result

A complete ERP, from design to delivery checks, covered by automated unit tests.

Multi-account flows connected to a group’s ecosystem

Automotive group, remote2023

Context

A five-month remote mission: connecting one entity’s data flows to its group’s ecosystem, starting from existing web services.

What I built
  • Integrating the existing web services
  • New services for flows linked to several accounts
  • Interfaces with document management and digital archiving
  • Cleaning up and optimising the code
Technologies
  • PHP
  • Symfony
  • REST API
  • Web services
  • Document management
Result

The flows connected to the group’s ecosystem in five months, remotely, on cleaned-up and optimised code.

How we work together

Three ways to work together: a role in Paris, on site or hybrid, a remote mission from Tunis, or a collaboration.

  • A role in Paris

I am open to new Tech Lead or architect opportunities in Paris, on site or hybrid. A role elsewhere in France, in Europe or working remotely from Tunis is also possible.

  • Freelance mission

Tech Lead or senior developer on your project, on a time-and-materials or fixed-price basis, or to strengthen an existing team: remotely from Tunis, nearshore, and on site for workshops, kick-offs and go‑lives.

  • Collaboration

A product to launch, an architecture to rethink, AI to wire into your data, a technical partnership: we shape the setup together.

For remote work, Tunisia is on UTC+1 all year round: the same time as Paris in winter, one hour behind in summer. We can work in French or in English.

My other areas of expertise

  • Java / Spring Boot development

Spring Boot microservices, DDD and hexagonal architecture, the web services, external APIs and document management of a software suite, a migration to Azure.

    Approach and case studies
  • AI integration for business software

In production: OCR and document classification, RAG with sources, self-hosted LLMs with vLLM and AI agents, with guardrails.
